Dholka is a city and a municipality in Ahmadabad district in the state of Gujarat, India.
In the Middle Ages, Dholka was the seat of the Vaghela family, who were feudatories of the Solanki rulers of Gujarat. As the Solankis went into decline, the Vaghelas rose in power, ruling Gujarat from 1243 to the Muslim conquest in 1297. They restored stability to Gujarat for the latter half of the 13th century, and the Vaghela kings and their officials were dedicated patrons of the arts and temple-building.
Dholka is home to BAPS Shikarbadh temple, to which many devotees go every year. Dholka is also known for Jain Temple Kalikund Tirth, and every year lots of Jain families visit this temple.
There is an ancient temple of Ambaji mata in Dholka. The statue of this goddess was found from the house of Bapalal Murjibhai Joshi situated near the temple. There is also school of Pandavas, kitchen of Bhima, Malav Talav and many more things to view in Dholka. Dholka was known as Viratnagar when Pandavas lived here for two years.
