Dirceu

Dirceu, real name José Guimarães Dirceu, (born June 15, 1952 in Rio de Janeiro , died September 15, 1995) was a football (soccer) player from Brazil. He played offensive midfielder with many teams, in particular Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas and the Brazilian national team. He died at only 43 years old in a road accident.

Dirceu played for many teams, but won only few honours in the first part of his career with Coritiba F.C., Fluminense Football Club and Club de Regatas Vasco da Gama.

He had 44 caps (14 non official), between June 1973 and May 1986, with the Brazilian national team (7 goals).

He played the Football World Cup 1974, Football World Cup 1978 and Football World Cup 1982. He was due to go to the 1986 tournament, but was ruled out by injury.
