The Dolphin School is a co-educational private school for boys and girls between the ages 3 to 13. There is a nursery for the younger children and a reception followed by years 1 to 8. It is situated in Hurst, Reading, Berkshire, England. Hurst is a rural village with a population of around 3,000. It is a very small school with only around 270 pupils. The classes are small with around 14 children.

It is a Montessori school, and integrates all its studies with one another. The current headmistress of the school is Mrs.Brough, who has been with the school for many years. The previous headmistress was Dr Follett, who was one of the co-founders of Dolphin School in 1970.

Contents

The facilities of Dolphin School include a medium sized sports field, two tennis courts, a large playground and a large hall used for assemblies and other occasions. The two main buildings at the front of the school were built recently while other old parts of the school have been redecorated and modernised.

The buildings are often named after Greek and Roman architecture such as the Basilica and the Cloisters.

Dr. Nancy Follett is a Humanist and a co-founder of the Dolphin school in 1970. She is very fond of Roman and Greek culture, and this shows through the way the School is run. Students partake in lessons such as Latin, Classical Studies and Architecture from an early age. Dr. Follett was always called by Ophelia, a name she chose to be called by the students after her favourite Shakespearian character.
