DontStayIn, commonly abbreviated to DSI, is a social networking site with an emphasis on clubbing. Primarily covering the UK it lists over 100,000 events and has over 235,000 verified users. Members are encouraged to upload picture galleries to the site for events they've attended, add events and venues and otherwise contribute. 'Spotters' are DSI members who review and photograph events and promote DSI. DontStayIn has a current Alexa Rank of 8,817, making it one of the top 10,000 websites in the world according to Alexa.
DontStayIn offers users a unique web experience due to an amazing level of interactivity. Every second of every day, users communicate online in a highly user-friendly and well organised environment. The format of the site allows all users to add event listings, post comments and upload photos from anywhere in the world. By giving everyone the potential to develop and share their own site content, DSI has managed to create a remarkably loyal membership [1] and this is enshrined in a diverse online chat community.
For many DSI users (often shortened on the site to "DSIers"), DontStayIn has become more than an online clubbing resource but rather the opening to a new world. Examples of this include events [2], [3] and user-groups [4], [5] that have been set-up to promote the meeting up of DSIers in real life.
The open and viral nature of the site presents the potential for almost endless social and professional networking capabilities; the growing power of DSI was demonstrated in November 2006 when it was reported as being used to organise what has been described as the biggest flash mob ever [6] in Paddington Station, London, UK. Many users also comment favourably about the site and its impact on their lives when it is mentioned by reviewers [7].
DSI's success may also be partially measured by the fact that in 2005 it was featured in a documentary[8] made by Juniper TV[9] as part of Channel 4's "Trouble Online" series [10] that profiled new media enterprises that have been set up by young entrepreneurs. In 2005 DSI also won the House Music Awards prize for "best web resource" [11].
