Mitchell officially announced that he had signed a three-year contract with the Western Force after the second last Reds' game of the season in 2006. This followed a period of high speculation regarding his future, with the Brumbies also offering him a contract. Mitchell said that the chance to play at fullback and the lifesytle were the main reasons that helped him make his decision.[1]
