Portrayed by Reiner Schöne

Dukhat, played by Reiner Schone, is a fictional character from the science fiction television series Babylon 5.

Dukhat was a leader of the Minbari. He was considered one of their greatest leaders. Dukhat served as a mentor to Delenn, who had grown from a simple to represent the religious caste in the Grey Council.

During his administration, there was growing evidence of the reemergence of their feared enemy, The Shadows, although many in the Minbari government refused to recognize it as such. Dukhat disagreed and decided to have the Grey Council personally investigate the matter on their enemy's home planet of Z'ha'dum.

Unfortunately during that expedition, the first contact between the Minbari and the Humans occurred with disastrous results. The Minbari ships approached the Earth Alliance ships with their gun ports open in a sign of respect. Dukhat, realizing the humans would misinterpret this as hostility, ordered the gunports closed, but it was too late. The human captain—who was considered by his crew to be a 'loose cannon'—panicked and opened fire on the Minbari ships. This attack resulted in the death of Dukhat. Delenn, discovering Dukhat's body, swore vengeance; this caused the Minbari to declare a holy war against the humans that resulted in about 250,000 human deaths. Furthermore, it would have concluded with the extermination of humanity until the Battle of the Line when a stunning discovery prompted the Minbari to surrender.

Even to this day, Dukhat is considered the greatest of the Minbari.
