The Dutch Wikipedia is the Dutch language edition of Wikipedia. Started on 19 June 2001, this edition reached 100,000 articles on 14 October 2005. It shortly surpassed the Polish Wikipedia as the sixth largest edition of Wikipedia, but then it fell back to the eighth position. On 24 January 2006, the 125,000th article was added. On 1 March 2006 it overtook the Swedish and Italian editions in one day to rise back to the sixth position. On 19 March 2006 the 150,000th article was added and the 200,000th article was added on 24 May 2006. From the start of the Dutch Wikipedia the number of newly added articles a day gradually increased. In March 2006 it made a rapid growth to peak at an average of 1000 in early May 2006. After this number was reached the growth dropped to an average of only about 250, comparable to the averages around December 2005.

On August 23, 2006 Multiscope published a report stating that one out of three Dutch people uses Wikipedia. The Dutch language Wikipedia is therefore the sixth most popular website in the Netherlands. [1]
