The Eastern Championship Wrestling Tag Team Championship[1] came into existence in June 23, 1992 when the Super Destroyers won a tournament. In September 1994 ECW left the National Wrestling Alliance and was renamed Extreme Championship Wrestling, and the title was then known as the Extreme Championship Wrestling World Tag Team Championship. The titles were made in to a very similar design as the World Wrestling Federation's Intercontinental Championship , until they were redesigned along with the companies other 2 Titles.. The title was contested under this name until ECW declared bankruptcy in April 2001. World Wrestling Entertainment now holds the title along with all other ECW assets from 2001.
