EF2000 is a video game of the combat flight simulation genre released in December 1995 for DOS on the IBM PC compatible personal computer. It is the sequel to Digital Image Design's earlier software title TFX (computer game). In fact EF2000 runs under the label TFX military. It was released after the introduction of Microsoft Windows 95 but only runs in DOS mode. EF2000 is a combat flight simulator featuring the recent NATO Eurofighter. The simulation had groundbreaking graphics when it was introduced, featuring detailed terrain including mountains, fjords, snowfields, sea etc. of the Baltic region featuring countries such as Norway, Sweden, Finland and some parts of Russia. The location was inspired by a scenario described in Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy. The game was to have included Iceland as part of the theatre but this was lost to concentrate on the Scandinavian peninsula. In addition, buildings and airfields were well-detailed. In fact, the game's detail was a vast graphical improvement over DID's earlier simulation TFX (for DOS on the PC platform). The simulation even supported early Virtual Reality goggles. An interesting feature about the simulation is that upon executing the program it plays an Intel Pentium processor video clip theme which will play only if the machine contains a Pentium class or higher processor. It seems to also work with AMD processors of that same or higher level. EF2000 comes with a huge well illustrated 285 page manual and includes a paper operational navigation map along with a paper quick command and control guide. The manual is well written and teaches aerial combat tactics, avionics, ordnance types and systems and includes many other details of the simulation.

Gameplay consists of Quick combat, Simulator(free flight mode), Training and Multiplayer and features simplified avionics systems of the Eurofighter. Attention to detail is also evident in the simulation's many missions and events. Refueling is accurately represented, MFDs allow you to view guided bombs striking buildings, even damage is well replicated.
The simulation also had some well-crafted Midi music, though this could be switched off or an audio CD could be used instead.
The main game in EF2000 didn't follow pre-created missions as other flight simulations games of its time. Instead, it featured a dynamic campaign that simulated a whole war, thus each play was unique and also had a much broader scope than in a normal mission based game, since missions flown by AI pilots and unrelated to the current players objectives were simulated as well.

EF2000 spawned later versions with various improvements. These were EF2000 V2.0 for Windows 95 and Super EF2000 with the Tactcom add on additions included for Windows 95 (both also work on Windows 98, 98SE and ME). The already outstanding graphics were again boosted when DID released the "Graphics+"-Patch, which added glide-Support to EF2000, making the graphics a lot smoother. In addition EF2000(or TFX) spawned other later DID simulations such as DID's F22ADF and DID's Total Air War. In 2001 Rage Games Limited put out Eurofighter Typhoon that had much improved graphics from EF2000. It was developed from the makers of EF2000 and has the Digital Image Design label on the box.
EF2000 is the highest-scoring original game in the 14-year history of UK PC games magazine PC Zone, with 97% - a score it shares with only three other games, all first sequels: Half-Life 2, Quake 2 and Alone in the Dark 2.
