East Didsbury is a prosperous area in the south of the city of Manchester, England.

East Didsbury and Manchester city centre are the only areas of the city which have seen their population increase in the last 10 years.[citation needed]

The quality of housing in East Didsbury is high, and price rises for property have been substantial in the recent past. This is also fueled by the fact that there are excellent transport links and parks in the area.

The central shopping area, along Wilmslow Road - more properly referred to as Didsbury Village - has become a popular area exhibiting cafe culture with many new bars, cafes and delis opening in the recent past. The pubs and bars on the main street of Didsbury Village have become popular with a wider public from further afield in Manchester, and represent a thriving social scene for a range of clientele from students, to young professionals, through to older and more affluent people. The traditional independent shops and pubs are gradually and increasingly being replaced, as the profile of the area is raised, by national chain bars and pubs.[citation needed]

The area is split by the A34 and contains a large entertainment complex which includes a Cineworld (formerly UGC) cinema and a Tesco supermarket.

Further growth is expected in the area although many buyers are now being priced out of the market and so neighbouring areas such as Withington and the Four Heatons are experiencing similar growth.

Didsbury East is a local government ward of the City of Manchester and is represented in the Town Hall by Councillors Helen Fisher, Tony Parkinson and David Sandiford.

East Didsbury is also home to two major schools in Manchester. Parrswood High School and The Barlow Roman Catholic High School, both are situated within a miles radius of each other.
