Railway station

Ebbsfleet International railway station is a new railway station in Ebbsfleet, in the borough of Dartford, Kent. It is situated between Dartford and Northfleet, near Bluewater shopping centre. It is situated upon the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (to be branded High Speed 1/HS1 from 2007) and is expected to open on 19 November 2007.

"Ebbsfleet International Station" was the name originally proposed for this station, but "Dartford International Station" was later proposed at the urging of Eurostar, who felt that Dartford was a name with greater recognition. This caused controversy as the station although in Dartford Borough is closer to Gravesend than Dartford.[1] Also the similarity of its name to that of Dartford's existing station was of great concern. The station is now named as originally proposed - Ebbsfleet International (as shown on this signpost on the A2).

Ebbsfleet International Station will be served by Eurostar, with up to four trains per hour in peak time between Ebbsfleet, Paris and Brussels. From December 2009 it will also have high-speed domestic services, with a 15 minute journey time to St Pancras. There will be 9,000 car park spaces across six car parks with 3,000 spaces available for domestic passengers. It was formerly planned that Crossrail would terminate at the station, but under the current plan, Abbey Wood further west will be the eastern terminus.

During the 2012 Summer Olympics, Eurostar trains will not stop at Stratford International station[1] (in the Olympic Park) due to the congestion expected there from Olympic Javelin shuttles. All passengers travelling on Eurostars from continental Europe to the Olympic Park will thus have to change trains at Ebbsfleet International.
