Eddie Floyd

Eddie Lee Floyd (b. June 25, 1935) is an black soul/R&B singer and songwriter, best known for his work on the Stax label in the 1960s and 1970s. Floyd stayed with Stax right up until the label's closure in 1975.
Floyd was born in Montgomery, Alabama and grew up in Detroit, Michigan. He was the lead singer for The Falcons, before being replaced by Wilson Pickett. Floyd had several solo hits in the late 1960s, including his best-known track, 1966's Knock on Wood, which he co-wrote with Steve Cropper. The song has been covered by many artists, including David Bowie, James Taylor and Ella Fitzgerald. Floyd also scored a significant crossover hit with the Sam Cooke song, "Bring It On Home to Me." He usually recorded with Stax house band Booker T. & the M.G.'s[citation needed].
Floyd wrote hits for the likes of Wilson Pickett and Otis Redding.[citation needed]
He also appeared in the movie Blues Brothers 2000, and has toured with the Blues Brothers Band[citation needed]. As of October, 2006, Floyd was a guest act with the Bill Wyman Rhythm Kings.[citation needed]
