El Universal is a major Venezuelan newspaper, headquartered in Caracas. It has an average daily circulation of over 80,000 on weekdays and 200,000 on Sundays. The online version carries news, politics, sports, economy and more.

El Universal was founded on April 1, 1909 in Caracas by the Venezuelan poet Andrés Mata and his friend Andrés Vigas. Its main rival is El Nacional.

It is largely considered to be right-of-center in their political outlook, though they have at times both supported and criticized the policies of socialist President Hugo Chavez.
