Electoral district of Baulkham Hills
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Baulkham Hills is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. It is a 37.97km² electorate in Sydney's north-west, taking in the suburbs of Bella Vista, Baulkham Hills, Carlingford and North Rocks. There were 43,965 electors enrolled within the district as of the 1999 state election.
The Baulkham Hills electorate was first created in 1991, replacing the short-lived electorate of Carlingford (1988-1991). As with its predecessor, it covers a series of wealthy and largely conservative suburbs, and as such, Wayne Merton, the former Liberal member for Carlingford, had little difficulty winning the seat in 1991. Merton has shown little sign of being challenged ever since, having been comfortably returned at three elections, even amidst his party's landslide defeat at the 2003 election.
