Electoral district of Dawesville

Dawesville is an Electoral district of Western Australia. As in other districts, the Dawesville district elects a single person to the Western Australian Legislative Assembly. The elected person is then known as the Member for Dawesville, and is said to hold the seat of Dawesville. As of 2005, the Member for Dawesville is Kim Hames who holds the seat for the Liberal Party by a margin of 4.1%. The seat in 2009 is expected to be retained by the Liberal Party.

Covers 121 km² on the spit of land between the Harvey Estuary and the Indian Ocean. From north to south it includes the Mandurah suburbs of Halls Head, Erskine, Falcon, Wannanup, Dawesville and Bouvard. The most rapidly growing electorate outside of Perth, enrolment rising 17.44% over the past two-and a half years.

Dawesville was a new electorate created prior to the 1996 election to cope with the rapid population growth around Mandurah. One Nation polled 12.7% in 2001, the swing to Labor after preferences 7.0%. The electorate crosses the Dawesville cut, dug to create a new ocean outlet for the Peel Inlet and Harvey estuary, successfully dealing with persistent algal bloom problems.
