Electoral district of Greenough

Greenough is an Electoral district of Western Australia. As in other districts, the Greenough district elects a single person to the Western Australian Legislative Assembly. The elected person is then known as the Member for Greenough, and is said to hold the seat of Greenough. As of 2001, the Member for Greenough is Jamie Edwards who holds the seat for the Liberal Party by a margin of 1.3%. The seat will be strongly contested seat in 2009 by the Liberal and National Parties, Labor Party preferences may decide the eventual winner.

Agricultural district in the region surrounding Geraldton, covering 34,682 km² Along with some outer suburbs of Geraldton, the electorate includes the centres of Kalbarri, Northampton, Mullewa, Morawa, Dongara and Three Springs.

Always a conservative seat, Greenough was the political home of form Premier Sir David Brand between 1945 and 1975. He was succeeded by Reg Tubby 1975-89 and Kevin Minson 1989-2001. The Liberal vote halved in 2001, down from 72.1% to 35.4% as the National Party polled 10.2% and One Nation 27.5% to finish second after preferences.
