Electoral district of Lara
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Electoral district of Lara is a seat in the Victorian Legislative Assembly.
Lara District cover much of the land between the western suburbs of Melbourne and Geelong. Because of this most of the voters come from the the very western suburbs of Melbourne, especially Wynhdam Vale and the very northern suburbs of Geelong including Lara, Bell Post Hill and Corio. The district also includes the country towns of Anakie, Balliang, Little River but these add very few voters to the district.
As a result of the growth in both the district of Tarneit and the Wynhdam Vale area of this district future redistriubtions will probably see the southern boundary move further north to lose Geelong voters so that move voters can be bought in form the Tarenit district.[citation needed]
The currently elected member is Peter Loney of the Labor Party who is retiring at the 2006 state election as a result of John Eren applying to run in the seat during Labor preselection with various factional group backing. This is one of the seats where the new People Power party are running.
