Electoral district of Maylands
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Maylands is an Electoral district of Western Australia. As in other districts, the Maylands district elects a single person to the Western Australian Legislative Assembly. The elected person is then known as the Member for Maylands, and is said to hold the seat of Maylands. As of 1990, the Member for Maylands is Judy Edwards who holds the seat for the Labor Party by a margin of 16.5%. The seat in 2009 is expected to be retained by the Labor Party.
23 km² of the inner-northern suburbs of Perth, including Maylands, Bayswater, Bedford, Embleton and parts of Morley, Dianella, Inglewood and Mount Lawley.
Held by the Labor Party since 1968, it was the seat of former Labor Premier Peter Dowding, 1986-90. He had previously served in the Legislative Council.
