Electoral district of Pittwater

Pittwater is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. Located in Sydney's north-east, it is 175.32 km² in size, and comprises the local government area of Pittwater Council and parts of Warringah Council. It includes the suburbs of Avalon, Bayview, Bilgola, Church Point, Cottage Point, Duffys Forest, Elanora Heights, Elvina Bay, Ingleside, Ku-ring-gai Chase, Mona Vale, Morning Bay, Narrabeen, Newport, North Narrabeen, Palm Beach, Scotland Island, Terrey Hills, and Warriewood.
It was created in 1973, and has developed a reputation as a safe Liberal seat. The first member elected to the seat was Sir Robert William Askin, then Premier of New South Wales. The seat was famously held by New South Wales Opposition Leader John Brogden from 1996 until his resignation in 2005, but was lost in the resulting by-election when then-Mayor of Pittwater Council, Alex McTaggart, defeated Liberal candidate Paul Nicolaou in a landslide.
McTaggart lost the seat in the 2007 general election to Rob Stokes of the Liberal Party of Australia.
Rob Stokes, up until until the day of the election - March 23, 2007 practiced as an environmental lawyer and lecturer at the Macquarie University Pittwater.
He and his wife Sophie are family friends of John and Lucy Brogden. Rob was also John's policy advisor. Rob takes up his positon as the Member for Pittwater on Thursday April 5, 2007.
