Electoral district of Tarneit
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Electoral district of Tarneit is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It was created before the 2002 election where it replaced the seat of Werribee but it was really only a renaming of the Werribee district.
The seat is located in the south western suburbs of Melbourne, including Werribee, Tarneit and the eastern parts of Hoppers Crossing. It is a safe seat for the Australian Labor Party with a current margin of 12.47%. It was previously held by 17.4% but a substantial swing in the 2006 election brought it down. It is still an incredibly safe seat
Tim Pallas is the current member who was first elected in November 2006. He won the seat after beating the sitting Labor member Mary Gillett for preselection. Prior to his election to Parliament he was Victorian Premier Steve Bracks Chief of Staff. The safe seat of Tarneit is considered to be a sinecure, a reward for Pallas after his work in Bracks office,
