Electro-industrial

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Electro-industrial, also called Elektro (Not to be confused with Electro, a subgenre of hip-hop) in Central Europe and South America, was a musical outgrowth of the EBM- and Post-industrial-scene, and developed in the first half of the 1990s. Whereas EBM was straightforward in structure and production, Electro-industrial became known for having a deep, layered, and complex sound (Which can be heard in many albums of this genre, such as Blood Meridian by Numb and The Process by Skinny Puppy).

After the EBM movement faded in the early 1990s, Electro-industrial increasingly attained popularity in the international clubscene. In contrast to the EBM style, the Electro-industrial groups used harsher beats and distorted vocals, and were strongly influenced by a dystopian subject matter.
