The Infanta Elena, Duchess of Lugo (Elena María Isabel Dominica de Silos de Borbón y de Grecia; born December 20, 1963, Madrid), MA (Exon), is the elder daughter of King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía of Spain, and fourth in the line of succession to the Spanish throne, after Infanta Sofía. She has a younger sister, the Infanta Cristina of Spain, and a younger brother, Felipe, Prince of Asturias.

She studied Basic Education at the University College ESCUNI of Madrid, graduating in 1986 with a speciality of English Philology. She then continued her studies at the Comillas University of Madrid graduating in Education. In 1990 she obtained a Master's in Sociology and Education from The University of Exeter, England. Also she has the CCC's ESO (Secondary Mandatory Education) graduate.

The Infanta is fluent in English, French and Spanish.

Infanta Elena has participated in many official events, having travelled to Germany, England, the United States, Argentina, Japan, Peru and the Philippines representing the Royal Family.

She married Jaime Marichalar y Sáenz de Tejada on March 18, 1995, at Seville, at which time her father conferred on her the title Duchess of Lugo for life [1]. She has two children:

On November 13, 2007, it was announced that The Infanta had separated from her husband.[2]
