In spite of some redundancy, English Rose could be considered the third album by Fleetwood Mac, released in January 1969 (see 1969 in music). It was originally a US-only compilation, combining 6 tracks from the UK-only Mr. Wonderful (*), 3 UK non-album single sides (**), two not-yet-released songs from the UK version of Then Play On (***) and one unique outtake from the Then Play On sessions (****). It overlaps the 1969 non-US "The Pious Bird Of Good Omen" compilation LP by five songs (^).

Note: Although common these days, import albums were fairly rare when "English Rose" was released in 1969, and the people in the US considered it to be the second Fleetwood Mac album. As noted above, it does overlap the 2nd and 3rd UK releases, but for those of us in the states, it certainly wasn't redundant. Nowadays it is perhaps the most rare of all of the official Fleetwood Mac releases, available at this time (January 2007) only as a Japanese import.
