Estevan is the eighth largest city in Saskatchewan, Canada. It is located at 49.14° N 103.01° W, which is near the southeastern corner of the province. The Souris River runs by the city.

The first settlers in what was to become Estevan arrived in 1892, along with the expansion of the Canadian Pacific Railway. It was incorporated as a village in 1899, and later became a town in 1906. On March 1, 1957, Estevan acquired the status of a city, which, in Saskatchewan terms, is any community of 5000 or more. The origin of the city's name is unknown, although several theories have been suggested.

The major industries in Estevan are coal mining, power generation and oil and gas. Estevan's current population is 11,242.

Estevan was the site of the notorious Estevan Riot in 1931. Although most of the strikers were from nearby Bienfait, the strike is associated with Estevan because it was in this city that the demonstrators were met by members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. After the subsequent riot that lasted 45 minutes, three strikers lay dead. It was later proven that the three miners had been killed by the R.C.M.P. The coal miners had been organized by the pro-Communist Workers' Unity League.

Estevan's small-town rival is the city of Weyburn, located just an hour north of the Energy City. This rivalry has been known to cause dramatic situations, especially at the high school level. The Estevan Comprehensive School and the Weyburn Comprehensive School have had various rallies to raise school spirit, such as "Smash the Trash" in Weyburn, and "Eagle Season" in Estevan. At one point, the popular basketball game series (the Mcleod Series) had to be cancelled due to riots. In 2007, some Weyburn fans vandalized the school in Estevan after the game, smashing pictures of teams and tail lights in the parking lot. The rivalry continues, as even City Council points out that Estevan has more jobs available than Weyburn. Rivalry is also alive or was so in the swim teams of the two cities. Fierce competition was burning. Thankfully no violence.
