European Commissioner for Consumer Protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Commissioner for Consumer Protection is the member of the European Commission responsible for the protection of European consumers rights. The current Commissioner is Meglena Kuneva (ALDE).

This is a new post, created when Bulgaria and Romania joined the European Union on 1 January 2007. It was previously part of the Health & Consumer Protection portfolio which was held by Markos Kyprianou.

Unlike the Multilingualism portfolio that was created for Romanian, Leonard Orban this post was welcomed due to the large size of the combined portfolio. The Directorate-General is still merged with that office.
