The European Global Navigation Satellite System Supervisory Authority is an agency of the European Union. The European GNSS Supervisory Authority was set up in 2004. It has not yet been decided where this agency will be based.
Its job is to ensure that essential public interests are properly defended and represented in connection with European Union's satellite navigation programmes (GALILEO and EGNOS). The aim of GALILEO is to provide a modern European alternative to the established GPS system of the United States of America.
The agency is responsible for managing and monitoring the use of the programme funds. It will help the European Commission deal with any matters relating to satellite radio-navigation.
