The European Parliament election will be the United Kingdom's component of the European Parliament election, 2009 and will be held on Thursday 11 June 2009.

It has been predicted that the election may coincide with the next general election.[citation needed] [1] 72 Members of the European Parliament will be elected from the United Kingdom using the proportional representation D'Hondt method. Due to the expansion of the European Union, this is 6 fewer than were elected in 2004. The number of Members of the European Parliament elected from each region will be modified by the Boundary Commission and Electoral Commission, based on the electorate size in 2008. Similar elections will be held across the other 26 member states of the European Union from 11 - 13 June 2009.
