"Even in His Youth" is a song by the American rock band, Nirvana and two different versions have been officially released. The original version was a B-side on their 1991 single for the song "Smells Like Teen Spirit" in 1991. The same version appears on their 1992 tour EP, Hormoaning in 1992. A demo version appears on the band's 2004 boxed set, With the Lights Out.

Apparently the song is written by Kurt Cobain in the third person about himself. During part of the chorus he switches the format to first person, a trick that Kurt would sometimes do with songs. There are references to his inability to please his father and his low self-esteem throughout the song. "Even in His Youth" features one verse that is repeated twice, a chorus that is repeated thrice, and a guitar solo in the middle.

Although the song is actually 3:06 in duration, the "Smells Like Teen Spirit" single label lists the song's length as 4:20.

The main guitar riff accredited to Dave Grohl in the Nirvana Book of Tabs, however this seems to be inacurate as even though Kurt Cobain admitted this in a post-concert interview in 1992, the song was written in 1987, long before Dave Grohl joined the band.
