EverQuest universe

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The EverQuest universe is a fictional universe where the EverQuest games take place.

The original EverQuest game is the MMORPG, "EverQuest" — a constantly evolving and ever-expanding collection of playable areas called "zones" which are linked together and through which players can venture. (See Zones of EverQuest) Each zone is part of a city, region, or continent or plane and ranges from tunnels to dungeons to above-ground areas such as plains, forests, snow-covered hills, castles, and canyons.

Most of the playable areas are located on the numerous continents of the fictional planet of Norrath. Norrath has several moons, of which Luclin is the only one with playable zones. In addition, there are alternate planes of existence, called planes, which are the homes of the various EverQuest deities, and are not physically located on Norrath.

Norrath is comprised of six major continents, each of which houses many unique races, both player usable and non-player usable. They include:

Home to The Erudites and the Kerra.

Home of the Iksar, Sarnak, and Drolvarg.

Home of the Coldain Frost Dwarves, and the Frost Giants.

Home of the Taelosians.

In addition to these known continents, by looking at maps hanging on the walls of the Plane of Time, as well as Dragon Globes located on Kunark, there are additional large land masses undiscovered by Norrathians.

One of several moons orbiting Norrath, Until recently, Luclin was hidden from the eyes of Norrathians by a magic veil of Shadows. When Al'Kabor led a group of Wizards to open teleportation to Luclin, the veil was destroyed and became visible from Norrath.

Plane of Time, Plane of Fire, Plane of Water, Plane of Air, and Plane of Earth.

Plane of Hate, Plane of Fear, Plane of Valor, Plane of Torment, Plane of Nightmare, Plane of Mischief, Rage, Plane of Justice, Plane of Knowledge, and Plane of Tranquility.

Plane of Sky, Plane of Underfoot, Plane of Growth, Plane of Sun, Plane of Disease, Plane of Tactics, Plane of Storms, and Plane of Innovation.

Demi-Plane of Blood, Demi-Plane of Music, Demi-Plane of Shadows, Demi-Plane of Magic, and Demi-Plane of Dreams.

Since Everquest's release in March 1999, Sony Online Entertainment has added thirteen expansions to accompany it, and several different newer EverQuest-related games of various types that are all set in Norrath. These additional games include Champions of Norrath (PS2 - February 2004) and its sequel Champions: Return to Arms (PS2 - February 2005), EverQuest II (PC, MMORPG sequel to EverQuest - November 2004), EverQuest Online Adventures (PS2 - February 2003), Lords of EverQuest (PC real-time strategy - December 2003), and EverQuest Role-Playing Game (a tabletop roleplaying game produced in collaboration with White Wolf which uses the d20 system).

Everquest was the most popular mmorpg of its time and spawned a wave of companies trying to mimic its success.
