Export cola

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Export Cola was produced in Brisbane during the late 1990's as an alternative to AC Cola. Made by Cadbury Schweppes, it was a budged-priced, and budget-packaged carbonated cola drink, popular amongst teens looking for something besides Coke and Pepsi to quench their thirst, without the premium price tags.

Export was available in 375ml cans, in a carton of 24, in 1.25L and also 2L bottles as well. The 24 can cartons were packed unlike the Coke and Pepsi packs of today, it was more like a carton of beer, which appealed to its fans, as they carried it over their shoulders proudly as they departed their local Franklins supermarket.

Export Cola generated a cult following throughout the end of its production run, the last known sighting of a carton for sale was in 1999, in Action (now Super IGA) Supermarket, Winston Glades, QLD.

Recently, the last known can (mounted as a trophy) exploded in the heat, much to the dismay of its fans.

After the popularity of Export Cola at a party in December 1997, where the great taste (and aftertaste) of Export Cola was appreciated throughout the night until supplies ran dry in the early hours of the morning, it was decided there needed to be more of these gatherings to appreciate the true taste sensation that was, Export Cola.

Two of the members of the committee discussed the option for the fans of Export and realised that starting a club for the drinkers of "Our Beloved" (as it was affectionately known) was the only way to unite as one true entity. In April 1998, the founders launched the "Exclusive Export Cola Club", becoming President and Vice President after unanimous voting.

Later, the secretary was named and voted in, while the job of Treasurer was accepted by the VP. As the clubs name suggests, membership was exclusive, and was by invitation only.

The Exclusive Export Club still managed to achieve a first quarter growth in excess of 1500%!

However, like any great product or club, there were people who wanted to cut them down, and tragically, membership dropped soon after, with these "Export Jarrers" expelled by the committee or defecting from the prestigious club.

5 Monthly newsletters were circulated and became a popular read for members and non-members alike. They included news about Export Related Events, Export Members News, as well as the Financials and even a Crossword!

Sadly, due to other commitments, and the unavailability of Export Cola on the shelves, the Exclusive Export Cola Club took a backseat, remaining newsletters snapped up for memorabilia.

Seven members of the EEC were expelled during 1998, with several more defecting due to alliances with the expelled. They were named "Export Jarrers" and became extremely unpopular in their local community.

Continual "Merrrings" was the usual punishment for jarring the club, some of the Committee still "Merr" the Export Jarrers to this day.

The very first Export Jarrer has been imortalised with a song, and continual drive by activities, mocking him for his Elongated shaped head.

The Committee take this task very seriously, and, by invitation, have allowed others to take part in such activities.

The committee consisted of the President, Vice, Treasurer and Secretary, all of whom are still great friends to this day.

The President was the man who introduced everyone to the phenomena, so it was decided by the eventual VP and Treasurer to appoint him as the President.

The Secretary was appointed by the President and VP that same time, without consultation, however he knew an offer like this doesn't come along every day, and was thrilled to be on board.

The Committee also approved each and every individual member, even after the invitation was extended and accepted. The EEC had 2 Junior Members who were a mere 11 years of age, but understood that Export Cola was going to be big!

"Its not the Taste, Its the Lifestyle "It's not the Quality, It's the Quantity" "Export: The Choice of a New Generation"

Many more were used casually throughout the EEC's dominant years.

The Exclusive Export Cola Club held weekly events at the home of the President to watch WCW's Monday Night Nitro, and later, WWE Raw and Smackdown.

The Committee held most meetings over dinner or lunch at Sizzlers where they dined on Malibu Chicken, though were always disappointed they could not consume Export Cola at the same time.

In 2007, the EEC will get together to celebrate a decade since the "Spiritual" beginnings of the EEC, while a full reunion is planned for 2008.

All interested parties should contact a member of The Committee.
