Extreme Dinosaurs

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Extreme Dinosaurs is a American Animated Series from 1997 based off of a toy line form Mattel starring a foursome of heroic anthropomorphic Dinosaurs and their nemeses: a trio of malevolent dromeosaurids with plans for world domination. Eventually, the evil dinosaurs' objective is to cause global warming, which will make life on earth more comfortable for reptiles. In Extreme Dinosaurs, the prehistoric reptiles were transformed by an alien criminal, and were given increased intelligence and an anthropomorphic form. A new female, alien, police officer character who became involved in the struggle by accident was also added. The key hero and villain characters first appeared in the cartoon series Street Sharks in the last few episodes of that series, the heroes where dubbed the Dino Vengers and were slightly different than the Extreme Dinosaurs.

Something is really rocking on planet number three,

A colossal fossil feud unlike anything before
between the reckless Raptors and the Extreme Dinosaurs
Extreme, extreme, extreme dinosaurs
Tails that...

  • T-Bone: Leader of the Dinosaurs, a Tyrannosaurus rex, "Saurian Stomp" causes an Earthquake. Voice done by Scott McNeil.
  • Stegz: the scientist, a Stegosaurus, he can roll into a saw blade like attack. Voice done by Sam Khouth.
  • Bullzeye: a wise-cracking Pteranodon , his shriek creates sonic waves. Voice done by Jason Gray-Stanford.
  • Spike: a martial arts expert, a Triceratops armed with a hard head that can bust through any object. Voice done by Cusse Mankuma.
  • Hardrock: Joined the team partway through the series was from an alien world of humanoid dinosaurs, an Ankylosaurus. Voice done by Blu Mankuma.

  • Spittor: has launchers on the backs of each wrist and in the throat that spray potent, adhesive acid. His supply runs out in the first episode and he spends other episodes trying to find a substitute. The "brain" is quite skilled at making up sophisticated plans. Voice done by Terry Klassen.
  • Haxx: has implants on the backs of each wrist that produce energy blades, tail has been replaced with a blade covered spinning duplication. Less gifted dinosaur: Too clumsy and idiotic to carry out his companions' plans usually spoiling the whole plot. Voice done by Lee Tockar.

(during the episodes of Street Sharks they also appeared. Bad Rap and Spittor had their basic hide colors exchanged)

  • Chedra: a female law officer who has been stranded on Earth. Companion of the Extreme Dinosaurs. Resembles a human but for her blue skin and hair. Chedra is obsessed with law and always carries a Codebook wherein the many rules of her race are inscribed. Although her book is (as T-Bone observes) sixty-five million years out of date, Chedra persists in quoting from it and in scolding her friends when they violate its edicts. Voice done by Louise Vallance

  • Porcupine McVells: Paleontologist and owner of a private Dinosaur Museum. Being very used to oddities, he has no objection to allowing the ravenous Extreme Dinosaurs to stay in his establishment for as long as they choose. He lends them a "crock-pot" to use as an incubator for the then-unhatched egg that would later become Stegz's pet Ostrich, Ditto; shares his knowledge of machinery; and presumably keeps their existence a secret.
  • Becky Scarwell: a secretive Scientist who has been researching mutations and extra-terrestrials. She captures the Extreme Dinosaurs more than once, learning in the process how intelligent they are. voice by Adam Gardiner

The Extreme Dinosaurs, like Beast Wars, had a toy line to accompany the show. The toys were mostly made of soft vinyl and included either one or several weapons. Repaints to many of the Extreme Dinosaurs also proliferated during the nineties.
