FC Winterthur is a Swiss football club based in Winterthur. It was founded in 1896. They play at the Schützenwiese Stadium.

The 1896 founded club was Swiss champion three times (1906, 1908 and 1916). It played in the Swiss league-cup final two times and two times in the final of the Swiss Cup. The FC Winterthur is the best in the eternal table of the NLB(now called Challenge League). They famously lost to West Auckland F.C., an English amateur team in what is thought to be the first international fotball club competition, the Sir Thomas Lipton Trophy.

The team has been ranked in the middle of the league table of the Challenge League, the second league of Switzerland. In the season 05/06 they finished in 14th place. Whilst performing poorly in the Challenge League, Winterthur advanced into the semifinal of the Swiss Cup by defeating Grasshoppers, Lucerne and Servette. In the club's fourth semifinal participation in history, it lost to the eventual winner of the competition, Sion, at home.
