Fairfield is also a QR CityTrain station in Brisbane.

Fairfield is a CityRail railway station on Sydney's South line. It serves a residential and commercial area. It has a major bus interchange including servicies further in the Fairfield city and Parramatta. It has two side platforms, One side for Campbelltown via Liverpool trains and trains coming back from Blacktown to Campbelltown, the other for City via Granville or the Blacktown via Parramatta services which comes only twice during the morning

The station was opened with the line in 1856 when a single platform and crossing loop were provided. Because the station ceased to be on the Main South line from the early 1920s, the station is relatively untouched architecturally.

The station is served by two trains per hour each way, with additional trains on weekday peak hours. The station has street access to both platforms, connected by a footbridge with lifts. It therefore qualifies as having Easy Access for wheelchairs.

A set of trailing points at the northern end of the station allows southbound trains to terminate on platform 2 and return to the city. There are, however, no trains currently timetabled to terminate at Fairfield.
