Ferguson Shipbuilders

Ferguson Shipbuilders Limited is a shipyard located in Port Glasgow on the River Clyde in Scotland. It is the last remaining shipbuilder on the lower Clyde. The company was founded in 1903 as Ferguson Brothers, Limited. In 1977, Fergusons was nationalised into the British Shipbuilders Corporation. In 1981, the assets of Fergusons were combined with those of the Ailsa Shipbuilding Company in Troon to form Ferguson-Ailsa Limited. Ferguson-Ailsa was split and privatised in 1986, and Fergusons was purchased by A & P Appledore as Appledore Ferguson Shipbuilders, Limited. In 1989, Appledore sold Fergusons to a consortium of private interests, and by 1991 the Yard was operated by a parent company Ferguson Marine plc.
