Ferry Corsten started to work as a musician in 1990, producing underground hardcore Gabber tracks, later expanding into club-house and trance music.[citation needed] In 1999 he produced Out of the Blue (under the alias System F), a melodic tune that became a hit on dance floors all over the world. His growing popularity in the late '90s led to cooperation with many famous trance DJs and musicians like DJ Tiësto (Gouryella, Vimana), Vincent de Moor (Veracocha), and Robert Smit (Starparty). In 1999 Ferry was elected as producer of the year at the Ericsson Muzik Award in London. In 2000 he was awarded best remix for Barber's Adagio For Strings (William Ørbit) at the Dancestar 2000 awards.

In 1997 Ferry and Robert Smit established the famous Tsunami Records dance label together with the German dance company Purple Eye Entertainment. Ferry also participated in compiling and mixing the Trance Nation trance series together with Ministry of Sound, which has sold over a million copies worldwide.[citation needed]

Ferry has contributed to remix projects of tracks by Japanese superstar Ayumi Hamasaki. He went on to compose and arrange her heavily trance-based song Connected, which was released, with remixes, as a German single.

in 2005, Ferry Corsten founded a new record label, Flashover Recordings.

His song Fire was nominated in the best trance video category for the 2006 Trance Awards.

Ferry Corsten made his Second Life debut on February 27th 2007 performing at the Grand Opening of club Glam Scum on Skyros Island, Second Life.

On April 18th 2007 Ferry Corsten was featured in a global satellite radio first when he was live in over 130 countries on WorldSpace Satellite Radio and XM Satellite Radio, AOL and Direct TV. The dance music channel "The System" broadcasts live from Houston’s premiere dance club "Rich’s" to broadcast DJ Zoltar’s Subterranean with an exclusive performance/dance set(s) by Ferry. On July 4th, 2007, Corsten debuted his new weekly radio show titled "Corsten's Countdown" which counts down a list of the highest voted trance tracks.
