Fictitious are a Manchester-based alt-rock band formed in summer 2005, fronted by lead vocalist Kerri Gibson. The other members of the band are brothers Mike and Neal Plews who share both guitar and bass guitar duties. Mike, also, is a backing vocalist and main songwriter. Adam Dawson is the drummer.

Neal originally had the idea to form the band, and soon recruited his brother Mike (who is also a member of the stoner rock band P.T.A.). When first deciding what the band was to be called, Neal came up with the name Fictitious, as at the time the band was still getting their lineup finished and writing their own material. Together Mike and Neal then began working through and auditioning other potential members. Adam Dawson responded to one of the ads, and the brothers were immediately impressed by his drumming ability- Adam is a session level drummer and is currently studying music and recording at university. After scouring Manchester for months and despairing of ever finding someone to front the band, Kerri Gibson, who attended the same college as Adam mentioned in passing that she was looking for a band. After blowing away the band members with her rendition of Three Libras by A Perfect Circle, Kerri was in and the lineup was finalised.

Fictitious have spent the last year since their full formation perfecting and refining their sound, a form of dark pop in the vein of Queens of the Stone Age, which also pays homage to the quirky rhythms and soaring melodies of late Soundgarden. As the band use only one guitar, many songs have two separate guitar lines -lead and rhythm- played simultaneously, a style which involves the extensive use of open strings. Added to this the group also show a preference for a fat distorted bass sound, and often have the bass playing an extra melodic or chord part under the guitar. The drums are used to make the songs heave and sway, with Adam often using unusual time signatures and quick aggressive drum fills to add to the song dynamic.

Recording wise, Fictitious have followed a steep learning curve, self-recording their first EP and moving into a studio for their second, the results of which are available for download on their website www.fictitioustheband.com. They are also finishing the songwriting for their next EP, which is set to be recorded in February/March 2007 and fully professionally mixed and mastered.

The year ahead sees the band also continuing live appearances throughout the northwest, including the manchester Academy 3 and the Cavern club in Liverpool.
