The North Dakota Fighting Sioux are a college football program that competes in NCAA Division II and the North Central Conference. Their current head coach is Dale Lennon and their public address announcer is Brian Lee Rivers. On June 21, 2006, the University of North Dakota announced that it would be moving its entire athletic program to Division I. The football team will compete at the Football Championship Series (FCS) level, formerly known as Division I-AA.

On August 2, 2007 the University of North Dakota and the University of South Dakota announced that their football programs would be joining the Great West Football Conference in 2008.
