Fire Brigades Act 1938

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Fire Brigades Act 1938 was the primary legislation for the UK, excluding London that placed reponsibility for the provision of a fire brigade on to the local authority, and away from the insurance companies.[1]

After World War II new legislation was passed. The Fire Services Act 1947 became the primary legislation giving firefighters legal powers to carry out their functions - the act was amended in 1957, and although changed by statutory instrument, it was the primary legislation relating to firefighting until the passing of the Fire and Rescue Services Act 2004[2]
