Flag of Tajikistan

Adopted in November 1992, Tajikistan was the last of the former Soviet republics to reveal a new flag. The one common link between this and the 1953 SSR flag is the choice of colours - red, white and green. The former Tajikistan SSR, sometimes referred to as the "Tadzhik SSR", added white and green stripes to the flag of the USSR.

The symbol in the middle white stripe, which is twice the size of the top red and bottom green stripes, is a crown symbol surrounded by seven stars. When the Tajik flag was introduced, very little information was given to explain the choice of image and colour. It is now understood that, if there is any significance at all, the red represents the unity of the nation; the white represents cotton and the unity of the people; and green represents the nature of the country.
