Flounder scares very easily, and is prone to panicking at any bad situation. However, when helping Ariel, his courage grows three sizes, and he is a very loyal companion. According to the Animated Series, Little Mermaid, Flounder's real name is Guppy #35.

He also appears in the Kingdom Hearts series, where his role as Ariel's friend remains. His biggest role was probably in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, where Ursula sent him to the surface to force Ariel to give her the trident.

Flounder had more voice actors than any other character from the movie. In the original movie, Flounder was voiced by Jason Marin, and in the television show, he was voiced by Edan Gross. Cam Clarke voiced him in The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea. In Kingdom Hearts, he was voiced by Eli Russell Linnetz, and Parker Goris in Kingdom Hearts II. Parker Goris also is the voice in The Little Mermaid lll. His Japanese voice actor in these games was Yuki Tokiwa.
