Fox Television Studios
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fox Television Studios is a production arm of Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation. It was created in 1997 and, like Fox, it is owned by News Corporation. It has produced shows like Bernie Mac, Malcolm in the Middle and The Shield. It also produces numerous Emmy Award-winning movies for television through its subsidiary Fox Television Pictures.
Until 2005, two of its many production subsidiaries included Foxstar Productions and Van Ness Films, both of which were founded by former Fox TV executive and producer Kevin Burns. Foxstar Productions was responsible for producing more than five hundred hours of quality non-fiction programming, mostly for cable. Among their many series were Biography (for A&E Network), Backstory (for American Movie Classics), Hollywood Science (for National Geographic Channel and Famous Families for Fox Family Channel. 1n 1995, Burns left FtvS (as it was also known) to become an independent producer, although he is still partnered with his former company on the hit reality series The Girls Next Door for E! Entertainment Television.
From 1997 to 2004, David Grant served as the studio's president. He was succeeded by Angela Shapiro-Mathes who, among many things, is credited as one of the developers and marketers of the mood ring, a minor fad of the 1970s.
