Frank Thring

Frank Thring (May 11, 1926 - December 29, 1994) was an Australian actor. Thring's specialty was as a character actor, often fitting comfortably in any character he was asked to be. In a career spanning over 35 years, perhaps his most famous role was that of Pontius Pilate in the 1959 movie Ben-Hur. He also played Herod Antipas in King of Kings (1961) and the usurping king in The Vikings. One of his final roles was in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985), another was a comedic role as an Alfred Hitchcock-like film director in the horror movie, Howling III (1987).
On stage he played Herod in an acclaimed 1950s production of Salome. He also played Captain Hook in 1956 opposite Peggy Cummins' Peter Pan.
His father, also called Frank Thring, was the head of Eftee Studios in Melbourne in the 1920s, and is said to be the inventor of the clapboard[1].
