FutureSex/LoveSounds is Justin Timberlake's second solo studio album. Timberlake embarked on the FutureSex/LoveShow tour in support of the album in January 2007. This is his first album to include a Parental Advisory label.

Contents

After three years of speculation, Timberlake officially began recording his second studio album in late 2005. FutureSex/LoveSounds was originally designed to be a double album, with one disc containing dance tracks (FutureSex) and the other containing love songs (LoveSounds). The title and release would be similar to OutKast's 2003 double album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below or R. Kelly's 2004 double album Happy People/U Saved Me.

Just months before its release, this plan was scrapped in favor of a single-disc release and several of the songs meant to be released were put back into the archives. However, Timberlake wanted to still keep the title the same despite it only being a single-disc release.

FutureSex/LoveSounds was released in the United States on September 12, 2006. The album debuted at number one in the United States with first week sales of over 684,000. This was Timberlake’s first time at number one as a solo artist after peaking at number two with Justified. On September 17, 2006, the album debuted at number one in Australia, going gold and shipping more than 35,000 units. It has since been certified triple platinum in Australia with sales of over 210,000. It also debuted at number one on the same day in the United Kingdom with 90,000 copies sold. FutureSex/LoveSounds became the biggest pre-order album in iTunes history and broke the all-time record for one week sales of a digital album with sales of 66,698, according to Nielsen SoundScan; the previous record was held by Coldplay.

The success of the album is evident from its 8.3+ million unit sales worldwide to date. The album has yielded three number-one singles and six Top 20 singles in the United States. This is the first time a solo male artist has achieved this since George Michael did in 1987, with the six singles from his album Faith.[7] The album holds a 70/100 on MetaCritic.com.

Timberlake embarked on the FutureSex/LoveShow tour in January of 2007. Guest artists are Three 6 Mafia, T.I., will.i.am, Snoop Dogg, and Timbaland.

Recently, 50 Cent made an appearance on TRL, September 11th, and stated that there was a possible deluxe version in the works for the album as well, stating that he was working on some material that would possibly be included on it. Also Beyoncé appeared on the re-release of the album on the duet version of Until the End of Time. The deluxe version was released on November 27. It includes a bonus DVD and the edited version of the album.

All tracks were produced by Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, and Nate (Danja) Hills, except for "Damn Girl" (produced by Jawbreakers, a production duo consisting of Will.I.Am and Timberlake) and "(Another Song) All Over Again" (produced by Rick Rubin).

The vinyl and online music store versions of the album differ from the CD in retail stores. On the CD version, "Sexy Ladies" and "Let Me Talk to You Prelude" are featured on one track, yet on the vinyl version, "Sexy Ladies" is a stand-alone track and "Let Me Talk to You" is appended to the beginning of "My Love"'s track index, giving "Sexy Ladies" a length of 3:58 and "Let Me Talk to You Prelude/My Love" a length of 6:10. Likewise, "Set the Mood Prelude" is indexed with "Summer Love" on the CD version, while it is indexed with "Until the End of Time" on vinyl and online versions; "Summer Love" then becomes 4:13 while "Set the Mood Prelude/Until the End of Time" is 7:33. "Pose" was also featured on Limited copies of the album at US Best Buy Stores. The track "Chop Me Up" is to be the next and possible final single from the album to be released in 2007/2008, although some urban radio stations already have the track in rotation.
