The Galbijim Wiki is a wiki run on MediaWiki software that is for and by expats in South Korea, begun November 23, 2005. It differs from Wikipedia in a number of ways:

  • Information is much more specific and related to daily life in the country (for example, List of movie theatres that do not show credits).
  • It assumes a basic knowledge of Korean language in some cases and many external links are all in Korean.
  • Naming conventions are slightly different regarding place names, generally coinciding with the way Koreans or expats living in the country will refer to a place; one example would be writing Gurye or Gurye-gun instead of Gurye County.
  • Users may create Korean language courses of their own, create pages on vocabulary, or language tips.

The license (GFDL) is the same as Wikipedia however, and content and pictures may be used freely. As of February 2007, the total number of pages is over 7,500.
