Gale Brewer

Gale Brewer is a member of the New York City Council. She was elected to the Council to two year terms in 2001 and 2003 and to a four year term in 2005. She is a Democrat representing the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
Councilwoman Brewer had a long career in government prior to becoming a councilwoman. She served as director of scheduling for Mary Anne Krupsak, the former Lieutenant Governor of New York from 1975 to 1978. From 1978 to 1990 she was chief of staff to Ruth Messinger, when Messinger was councilwoman from the same district Brewer now represents. She then served four years as director of the New York City Office of Federal Relations in New York in the administration of former Mayor David Dinkins. She then served as Deputy Public Advocate for Intergovernmental Affairs under former Public Advocate Mark J. Green. She worked in the private sector between her time as deputy public advocate and her election to the City Council.
Councilwoman Brewer serves as Chairwoman of the Technology in Government Committee.
