Gary Patrick Breen (born December 12, 1973 in Hendon, London), is an Irish footballer. He currently plays for Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers.
He has previously played for Maidstone United, Gillingham, Peterborough United, Birmingham City, Coventry City, West Ham United and Sunderland; and has also played for the Republic of Ireland on over 60 occasions.
In the 2002 World Cup he scored a surprise goal in Ireland's first-round match against Saudi Arabia, which Ireland won 3-0. This goal is his one and only World Cup goal.
Following the World Cup, Breen joined West Ham United on a free transfer, but left the club after relegation and only 14 appearances. He signed for Sunderland, where he was later to become captain. Following Sunderland's relegation after the 2005-2006 season, club captain Breen was released by the club. He subsequently signed for Wolves on a two-year contract on 20 July 2006.
Upon his relegation with Sunderland, Breen thus held the distinction of being relegated with three different Premiership teams (Coventry, West Ham, Sunderland).
He was called up for Steve Staunton's Ireland squad for the 1st two matches, but he retired from International football after not be selected for the match against the Netherlands.
