It is sometimes known as the Las Vegas of Malaysia as it is the only legal land-based casino in Malaysia, run by the Resort World Berhad, a Genting Group Company. The resort also features many hotels owned by Genting subsidiaries including Genting Hotel, Highland Hotel, Resorts Hotel, Theme Park Hotel, and Awana Genting. First World Hotel has a total of 6,118 rooms, making it the current largest hotel in the world[2]. It surpassed MGM Grand Las Vegas, the former largest hotel in the world with 5,690 rooms. Other facilities in this resort include a theme park, golf course, shopping malls, sky diving simulator, concert hall and many more. It is also home to a 100-million-year-old forest.
There is a computerised system outside the First World Hotel which can automatically calculate the number of parking-bays left in four hotels; Genting Hotel, Highland Hotel, First World Hotel and Resorts Hotel.
Genting Highlands functions every year as the finish of a stage in the Tour de Langkawi cycling race. It is one of the longest (30 km) climbs featured in a cycling event. Below the hill is the Chinese temple called Chin Swee Temple for Chinese and the mosque called Masjid Yayasan Mohammad Noah for Muslims.
