Geonosis is a planet from Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. It is the home planet of the Geonosians, one of the founding worlds as well as one of first homeworlds of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, and the site of the Battle of Geonosis. Geonosis was credited in Return Of The Jedi after the Galatic Empire's defeat showing celebrations in many different planets like Bespin, Endor, Coruscant and Geonosis. The Stalgasin Hive, the largest of the Geonosian hives, was ruled by Poggle the Lesser, the Geonosian archduke, until his death at the end of the Clone Wars (Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith).

The planet was located less than one parsec from Tatooine. In many ways the planet was similar to Tatooine, in that it was a rocky, desert world. One notable difference was that the planet had large and dense rings in orbit. When Jango Fett was being chased by Obi-Wan Kenobi (in Episode II), he flew directly into the rings to lose Kenobi amongst the rocks that made up the belt.

Geonosis was home to several droid construction facilities, which engineered pink-hued battle droids until the Battle of Geonosis. In addition, it was the first planet to create Super Battle Droids, the more powerful successor to the battle droid.

Much of the planet's architecture consists of domes and buildings built into caverns and rock spires, that look similar to termite mounds. Its most dangerous creatures are massiffs, dog-like lizards that, in every book they are mentioned in, seem to have a tendency to fall off cliffs. In addition to these, Geonosians keep larger creatures in captivity for use in their arenas. Examples include acklays, reeks, and nexu.

It was on Geonosis where the plans for the Sith's absolute weapon, the Death Star, were developed. After the Separatist defeat at the Battle of Geonosis — the first battle of the Clone Wars — Darth Tyranus escaped with these plans to Coruscant, where they could be kept in safety. The planet was then occupied by the Republic.

During the Galactic Civil War, Wedge Antilles crash landed on the planet during a mission to track the source of the Storm Commando Project. There he fought malfunctioning battle droids, stormtroopers, and the Rebel traitor, Sarkli. He manages to escape in a Jedi Starfighter, the one Obi-Wan Kenobi left behind decades ago, and destroys three Imperial Escort Carriers orbiting the planet.

Geonosis was also the location of the Delta Squad commandos' first documented mission. Their mission was to kill a Geonosian leader, destroy a Droid Factory, and destroy one of the Droid Control Ships.

During the Galactic Civil War, Geonosis was mainly used for slave labor. Since Geonosians were used as slaves, they sided with the Rebel Alliance during the war to defeat the Galactic Empire.
