George Saitoti

George Saitoti (1945-) is a mathematician, politician, and former Vice President of Kenya.

Saitoti claims to be a Maasai, but opponents say he is Kikuyu[1].

He received his undergraduate education in the U.S. at Brandeis University on a Wien Scholarship. Saitoti obtained a PhD in Mathematics from Warwick University in 1972 in the area of algebraic topology.

in 2002, he won the Kajiado North constituency MP for the ruling NARC party. Formerly he represented Kenya African National Union (KANU) led by president Daniel Arap Moi.

On 13 February 2006 Saitoti's resignation was announced by President Kibaki in a television address, after accusations that he was involved in the Goldenberg scandal[2].

On 31 July 2006, the Kenyan High Court ruled that Saitoti should not be charged over the Goldenberg scandal.[3]

On 15 November 2006 he was reinstated as Education minister by Kibaki. [4]
