China University of Geosciences

The China University of Geosciences (Simplified Chinese: 中国地质大学; colloquially 地大 Pinyin: Zhongguo Dizhi Dàxué) is a key university directly under the administration of the Education Ministry of the People's Republic of China. Its main campus is in Wuhan, the capital of Central China's Hubei Province, with a second campus in Beijing. Its notable alumni include Wen Jiabao, the Premier of China's State Council, who attended the Beijing campus when it was known as the Beijing Institute of Geology.
Founded in Beijing as the Beijing College of Geology in 1952, China University of Geosciences was formed by the merger of several departments from other colleges and universities. The university suspended operations from 1966-1970 due to the Cultural Revolution, and reopened in Jiangling County, Hubei Province, in 1970 as Hubei College of Geology. In 1975, the main campus was moved to Wuhan, and the school was renamed Wuhan College of Geology.
In 1987, the college merged with several institutions and departments in both Beijing and Wuhan to form China University of Geosciences. At the time, the school had two Wuhan campuses and two Beijing campuses.
